How cheap can you get ????
Ok I know I will get flak over this but I am too cheap to pay the $132. Canadian (incl tax) for the cabin filter in my 93 LS 400 from the dealer. Maybe it's partly the principle of paying a rediculous sum for a plastic frame with a paper element in it. Has anyone cut out the paper and replaced it with another filtering medium such as a furnace filter ? I'm thinking of trying that route before shelling out the $ 132.00

I buy the best 3M furnace filter and use it in my GS. I replaced it my 3M cabin filter every three months instead of Lexus cabin filter recommended every two years or 30,000 miles.

BananaGS has a DIY on his website how to do this. I'll find an link it in a sec.
Should be pretty much the same for LS and GS (except location)
Edit here it is http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/GS_DIY/hepa_filter

Here is a link to a cabin filter change for the '93 LS 400. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...t=cabin+filter
There is a lot of confusion as to where the filter is located. On a '93, you must remove the panel under the glove box (large plastic panel that slants downward and toward the engine) by gently prying it loose at the seam between the golve box door and the panel. Once you pop it loose, push it forward about an inch or less and it should release from the back. You can now get at the cover for the filters by taking off the two wing nuts you will see by looking up or using a mirror. Follow the instructions in the above link.
I am going to try the furnace filter replacement but I believe the 2 piece '93 filter may be too complex with it's necessity to bend it to get it into the housing. I may have to bite the bullet and get the rip off variety from the dealer.
