Question what kind of battery are you using?

I'm doing a little battery shopping and wanted to find out what kind of battery you all are using? I have a 92 SC300 and Sears told me I need either the Die Hard International battery $99.99 or the Die Hard Optima battery $129.99. Both are pricey but I wanted to see what everyone else is using. Currently I have an Interstate battery in there. Thanks.

Oh Mike,

This ground has been plowed and replowed. You won't find any consensus here. Try a search and you'll see what I mean.

George, I put in "battery" and "batteries" in search and came up with a bunch of stuff I didn't want to read and didn't need to know. Any suggestions on what to put in the search field? I'm just a gatherer of info like the rest of us...thanks for replying and trying to help, I appreciate it.

If you just put in "battery", of course you'll get too much to process.
If you wanna know who is using Die Hards, include that in your search.
George is right- there are as many opinions as there are brands. Like here, for example:

Go with the Optima- it's worth the price. If you know someone near a military base, they can usually be ordered at the auto parts section of the shopette for cheaper than retail and no tax.

Just get an Interstate. If you're frugal, you can get a battery from Wal-Mart or AutoZone.

Oh well, I wish I knew I could get the Optima's from an army base. But no worries gents, I went to Sears and just dropped $118 for a Die Hard International. They had Optima's there too but the guy said it'd be overkill since I'm no running, nor do I plan to have, a huge sound/entertainment system in my car. Seems to have fixed my "ghost" problem though so that's good. I actually wanted a Die Hard Gols because it was slightly cheaper but they didn't have the bigger sized battery that I wanted and I never undercut any maintenance on my car so I just went with the pricier one. Thanks for all the replies though, I'm learning slowly but surely.

Do you know what the price is for this? I do know someone but want to know if the price is worth the trouble to bother them about it. You can PM me if you don't want to post. Thanks.

From what I remember, I think the optima yellow top was going for around $129 with no tax. I think they normally retail for like $159-$169

I replaced the battery in my GS last year at Sears. Their parts book shows DieHard Weatherhandler, Silver, Gold for my GS. I bought a Gold. It is interesting that the recent Consumer Report test shows the lower priced Weatherhandler is better than the Gold.

I also come across this kind of "weird" logic when it comes to comparing auto products. You would think that the cheaper oil filter brand (for example) is of lower quality than the more expensive oil filter brand, but sometimes that's not the case (when you read from various review reports). Most of the time I find that the best referral to look out when choosing auto products is from someone who has actually experienced those products (e.g. usually the person behind the cash register at an auto parts store).

In any case gs400998, I hope your Gold battery will live up to its expectations. Then again, DieHard is an excellent choice for battery replacement
