Angry The Lexus Dealer changed my oil..and put in regular**Not Full Synthetic!

WTF?! I just happend to ask today after i picked it up. They said that Lexus recommends regular oil and not synthetic. I told him that i have been using Full Synthetic since the car was born, he said no big deal and that it was ok to use regular.

Is this true? Is it ok if i change it back to full synthetic in 3k miles? I hope i didnt hurt anything.

Default Change Back ASAP

I have been using synthetic oil for many years. As for Amsoil, they say u can mix with dino oil if u had to so you can't hurt anything. Thats if someone had to add oil & could not find any synthetic oil.
Synthetic is sooo much better, I my mind. I would change back tomorrow if I were u.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I use regular oil like Lexus recommends. As long as you change it frequently (5K), it's no problem at all. But yes, you could go back to synthetic whenever you like.

You are not likely to encounter problems with the dino oil so long as it is changed at shorter intervals, 3K or so. Since you just had it changed, I'd drive it till your next drain interval. It's in there...otherwise, it would be like throwing $55 away.

Oil changes are quite easy if you are inclined to DIY.

this happened to me on my 30k service. Totally my bad cause I forgot/didn't think to inform them to use synthetic. I assumed the service writer would have seen that they started me on the synthetic with my 15k service. Oh well.

Not too worry....you can switch back and forth as much as you would like. Just alter your change intervals accordingly (3k for dino, 5k for synthetic) and of course use a new filter each time.

the myth of not being able to alternate between dino and synthetic is just that.....a myth with no proof to its claims whatsoever.

drive on dude with peace of mind.....your lex will be fine.

Default Longer Life Synthetic Oil

One of the reason to use synthetic lubes is the longer service life, like 25,000 miles or 1 year between changes with a filter change every 6 months if u use AMSOIL products. Not only saves time & $$$ but saves your engine from wear.

Is $55 what one pays for a oil & filter change at the dealer?? WOW, I put in synthetic for 1/2 that.

I would not worry immediately about this. However, in the next 3,000 miles, change it back to synthetic. Maybe about five years ago, it was still worth it to use regular oil when one first got their car to set a base of protection, similar to using those light oils but driving gently.

I believe oil capacity is 5.3 quarts for the 1UZFE. Save the leftover in the 6th quart to use in the next oil change.

no, nothing on your car is broken by having regular instead of synthetic oil.

....which is certainly good news for the hundreds of millions of cars out there that have regular oil in them!
