Default I got the last case of 2000-4 oil filters

As you all know, the 90915-20004 oil filters have been the best quality oil filter money can buy, btu has recently been replaced by the YDD3 (i think) oil filter which is cheaper but also much cheesier and does not filter anywhere near as well.

I ordered a case of 10 from carson toyota on monday, and realized that 30,000 miles wouldnt last that long so I called back a week later to order two more cases and the parts dpet. said they only had one left. A tragedy really, he said they'd been selling case after case every day.

In closing, this doesnt sound like a toyota move, replacing a very good, proven product with something inferior.

I called and spoke with Gordon last Monday...he told me they had plenty...having seen what other CL members were doing, those cases weren't going to last long. I hope Steve can get more.

Default Cross Labelled?

I had read this in a previous CL post:

"The 90915-20004 is also cross-labelled as the 90915-03005 and 90915-20002
for the SC430. They are all the same filter."

Just had some 90915-20002's arrive and they are Nippon made in Malaysia , not Japan.

Have not cut one open to see the filter media.

below is a link to pic of 90915-20004 filter box showing that the 20004 subs for these other #'s.

Interesting. I'd probably drop Steve a note inquiring if he'd be able to get any of the made in Japan ones. Either way, no sweat...though it may not be the same, there have not been any reported problems I have heard.

A flashlight Inspection shows that the 90915-20002 has the more traditional pleated element array than the "finned" sponge of a 20004. What this means to filtration I don't know.

Link to good pic of what I am trying to describe:

It does look exactly like the somewhat pricey Denso # 150-1003

I bought my 04 SC430 two months ago and right away I called the delear to inquire about the oil filter. They told me they only carry the ones made in Taiwan. Like you guys, I'm very particular with the oil filter and I was having difficulty figuring out where I can find the real thing. Then I was looking around ebay and happen to see someone selling 3 90015-2002 filters made in Japan in the orginal Lexus box. I later found out that he's got 50 of them which I purchased right away. I think there a chance he may have more. At least it worth a shot. Here''s the link to the auction and you guys can send him an email. He was good to dela with - no problems. Good luck!

I think there is something wrong with the ebay link I pasted. Try to get on ebay and do a search on Item number: 2469013663.

Anybody care to comment? I thought Nippon, Denso and Bosch were all supposed to be at least decent. . .

I couldn't cross-reference any of the part numbers with any feedback.

why do you assume the new filter is worse than the old? Is that the trend of things like this?

why are you changing your oil and filter so often? Have you spent any time with www.neptune.spacebears.com ?

look for the mobil one test results
