PUll out the filter cartridge and replace.

My attempt
This is my edition of a filter replacement. I bought a 24 x 24 Filtrete filter and hat allowed me to get 4 filters out of a $12 filter netting $3 per filter. As I stated before, it appears that the filter I took out was possibly original. Prior to putting the filter back in, I did spray it with some air freshener and the car smells great. I did not feel that the filter needed the cardboard frame. I just cut it slightly big and let it fit tightly in the plastic frame. I did use 2 different methods to cut the filter. First I used a large pair of metal shears. To cut the remaining filters, I used a table saw with a carbide tipped panel blade. Moving fast through the blade gave me the best and cleanest cut. I am amazed at how easy this was. I am all about keeping my Lexus maintained as it should be but I can't justify spending so much on a filter when I can substitute one in my opinion that is just as good.

Holy Cow
well if that's not an incentive I don't know what is - I'm getting on it right away!!
(right away equals 3 months later - edit: amazing how life can keep you from the tasks that need taking care of)
I finally went and bought a filter for $19 and now that I see how simple it is, the next 48,000 miles I will do it myself - four times for less than the purchased price.

I suppose it was the mess of wiring harnesses in front of the panel that has me concerned. They are thick and not easy to move. I am afraid to break something. But thanks for your kind words.

Hey guys,
I guess I cant figure this thing out. When I open the glove box , I do not see anything that will allow me to get past this thing. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks
Here is a picture of what I see when I open the glovebox.
