Help with tune up
Hey guys...I've done a search but I just wanted to get other opinions....My car has 115K miles on it and I'm about to do a complete tune-up on her....For those who have this kind of mileage on their GS, what else have you changed??? I know Timing belt...waterpump...filters...plugs....etc... SOmeone told me though about some upper and lower gaskets??? Have you heard of this or is someone pulling my leg.....I love my GS and plan on keeping for a while so I want to make sure she lasts for a while...any suggestions???
Thanks for any and all help.
Danny

If you do not have any oil leaks at the cam seals or valve cover, probably not necessary. However, if you are having the timing belt done, might as well do the cam seals since the front accessible. They also suggest doing the idler and tensior too. Beyond the regular fluid changes: PS, tranny, differential, coolant, oil, you should be good to go.

Becareful about doing the cam seal on the VVT-i engine car. This thing is tricky and if you or the shop don't know what they're doing. You will end up with the tricking noise or rough idle instead. If the cam seal don't leak, don't bother, seriously.
On the 98-04 GS4 or LS4, you will have to remove the cam shaft and seperate the VVT-i gear from the cam shaft and then remove the cam seal out from the back side. Been there, done that, what a pain in the neck and a lot of time consumption. I'm sure the GS3 will have to do the same thing.
RA40 already mention the rest of 120K service.

What type of oil (& viscocity) are you currently using? Might want to move up to something a tad thicker or switch to a thick synthetic like Castrol Syntec 5W 50 (my dad had the exact same problem with his car with the oil burning......switched to the 5W 50 & never a problem since!).
