I understand that Nippon Denso is the stock choice for Toyota's and Lexus, but the more I look into it, it does sound like when you put apples to apples, they both do the same but the denso's are some stinkin' expensive! 100 bucks for the set?!??!! I'd be better off making a custom cold air intake with a Univeral K&N.... NGK it be then,,,,, oh, by the way, if I can get a part number on the NGK's I can get them at cost, (got the hook uip at the local parts store)

Denso's = $60 on ebay

For the I6's at least

Also, all the Supra turbo guys use em cause they're almost impossible to foul, or atleast thats what they say

Cool

Denso iridium is what was factory equipped in my 01 ES & that's what the Lexus dealer replaced mine with as that's all they stock in their parts department & very happy with them. Both are excellent plugs however....but I think the Denso edges out the NGK ever so slightly.

Both Denso and NGK work fine with Toyota/Lexus. And both are suppliers to Toyota. However, Denso Iridium retails for twice as much as the NGK.

Compare the Denso and NGK side by side, they look nearly identical. (I wonder if NGK actually makes the plugs for Denso.) The only difference is the size of the center electrode. The Denso's is smaller, which means it will wear out faster than NGK's.

Oh contrare, or however you spell it

"By harnessing the power of Iridium, DENSO is suddenly able to shrink the surface area of the center electrode - the critical component of a spark plug. Unlike a typical platinum plug that has a 1.1mm diameter center electrode, DENSO Iridium Power plugs have the world's smallest center electrode measuring 0.4mm in diameter. This means that the voltage requirements are decreased while firing performance is greatly improved. "

The smaller electrode is one of more unique attributes of the iridiums

The NGK also has an Iridium center electrode. At 0.6mm in diameter, it will last longer than Denso's 0.4mm.

Sure, voltage requirement may be decreased with smaller electrode. But since the computer doesn't know it, the ignition coil will still send the same voltage no matter which plug you put in. It makes no difference whatsoever whether you use Denso and NGK. The difference is in price and durability.

Denso's always for me, whether standard, platinum or iridium. Denso's are built to more precise tolerances whereas NGK's exhibit a bit of sloppiness. So my engines idle a tad smoother with Denso's

Therefore, quality wise, I consider NGK's the Nissan of spark plugs and Denso's the Toyota of spark plugs

Thumbs up

The "factory" plugs according to Lexus are good for 120,000 miles (192,000 kms) in the owners manual at least (I would never leave them in that long mind you), so I assume the Lexus dealer would replace the same ones that are rated at least for the same milage? & why would Lexus equip some models with 3 NGK & 3 Denso's as some stated in previous threads.....or perhaps they are mistaken?
