Question

60K change? do you mean it's 60K oil change or 60k service interval? If it's the 60k service interval, I'd follow what the maintenance schedule suggests to perform.

Do you have any idea how much it should cost?

If you go to a Lexus dealer, it will cost you an arm and a leg. (about $500)

If you go to a Toyota dealer, it will cost less. (about $350) No loaner car, no gourmet coffee though.

For my ES300, they quoted $900-$1200 for ATF, radiator, brake fluid, oil, plugs, wires....

That is a little too much. 60k usually run around $350-$500.

Oh, after they said that , I did everything myself for less than $275 using OEM wires and NGK plugs and filters OEM radiator fluid flush, synthetic fluids for tranny, oil and PS. Superblue DOT4 for Brake fluid flush.

This is a 60k for a 98es so its time for plugs and wires and that may be why they quoted higher?

Wow, < $275 is the best pricing I've heard for a Lexus 60K service done DIY-style, congrats pkchin. Repair manual books make the DIY earth go round and round

You bet

Makes the job a lot easier and having the right tools always helps (or gives an excuse to buy more tools!)

I have the Haynes as well as the Lexus shop manual. You would think that the shop manual woudl be the end all, but interestingly enough, the Haynes gives some pretty good tips as well.

Thanks, it feels great knowing that you did the job right and you tried to get the best available parts ... this forum has given some great pointers for getting the job done....THANKS TO YOU ALL!

I didn't know that Haynes have manuals for Lexus. Do they have one for RX300?

I had Haynes for my last car. It helps but some details are vague. Some photos and illustrations are apparently 1980 vintage and not for my car.

DIY is not for everyone. Without the proper skills, tools, and manuals, it's better leave it to professionals. I could change the engine air filter, but I would never bother to change the oil myself. Get myself dirty and sweaty to save a lousy $15. Not to mention the trip to recycle oil and get treated royally as a valued non-paying customer.

The Haynes manual was kinda generic, covered the 4 & 6 cylinder Toyotas Camry as well.

Its not a point of saving money. Its about saving the time and knowing the job is done right. Besides, I enjoy working on the car.

For example, I know I put in Redline ATF with Mobil1 oil. with NGK spark plugs. I don't have to drive, drop off /and or wait for them to get the car back to me. When I dropped my wifes car off (she would prefer them to work on her SUV than me , I found they overfilled the ATF by 1.5 quarts. Brought it back, the tried to drain it and I found it was still .75 quarts overfilled. Spent a good 3hours driving and having them redo ithe ATF when they should have did it right the first time. My wife has now given me permission to work on her car

I do miss the Donuts and designer coffe though

It really comes down to what one feels comfortable with. I feel that I could do these maintenace items, but there are things I wouldn't do as well (timing belt), so I hear where your coming from if you don't want to DIY.

Cheers!
