Well, I bought the car used, so I am not sure how recently some things have been changed, specificaly the O2s in the manifold.
But I do know my O2 in the cat is GONE, and that my gas mileage sucks (240 miles to the tank). I'm about to do some exhaust work, so I would like to get everything done at the same time. Which is why I am starting to wonder if my cats are due for replacement (184k miles on the car)

everyone, sorry for bringing up old threads, but i bought the bosch universal O2 sensor.
i was gonna try to install it on yesterday, the problem is, on my O2 sensor ports, there's two screws that hold the sensor, now a nut thats on the sensor. my car is a 92 sc300. i also found out that NAPA or autozone doesnt carry universal O2 sensors for the sensor before the cat. only for the one after the cat. does anybody else have a problem like this?

Question on O2 sensors
I have a 92 SC300 that I plan to replace the O2 sensors With Densos(direct fit). Do you disconnect the negative batt. cable anytime you change emission parts or was that to clear a CEL?

Yes, it is best and safer to disconnect the battery prior to disconnecting any sensor ..
Failing to do so may cause a failure to the engine Electronic Control modual (ECM). Is energized by the battery

Quick question: Which O2 sensor is "bank 1, sensor 1" on the 1996 SC 300?
Is it the sensor that dude took off in the pcitures above (i.e. on the exhaust manifold)?
Thanks!

I just got back from the smog station and failed =( I was told I need a new cat i have 190k on the car and will most likely need new O2 sensors. anywho I ordered the new cats and was wondering where the rear o2 sensor is? I was told there are 2 one located next to the intake manifold and 1 located by the cat... I was wondering if I need to get a new one for the rear when I get the cat installed or can I do it another time? in other words when I go to get the new cats installed do I HAVE to replace the o2 while im doing the swap?

What part of the emissions did you fail on? Do you have the numbers?
Too rich, too lean or misfires can cause an emissions failure as well...

let me get the write up from my house Ill show exactly what the numbers were. I changed the plugs and wires as well as the air filter and the distributor cap and rotor but it didnt pass. So im hoping to change any sensors if I can(cheaper then the cats)change the sensors and not have to swap out new cats right now that would be nice to save a few bucks in order to pass smog
