hey everyone

now that its colder, i started turning the heat up to 80 degs on the climate control settings.
once the car is warmed up, the automatic climate control blasts in warm air to heat up the car.
but once that starts, i get a burning rubber/plastic smell. there isnt any smoke, but there is a smell.

i was wondering what might be causing it and how could i possibly fix this

i think the smell goes away after a while OR i just get used to it and dont smell it anymore

any ideas?

it is oil dripping onto the exhaust. it seems your rear main seal is shot. common problem on Gen II ES's, especially nes with higher mileage. that is one of the few symptoms. check your oil level...has it gone down?

the rear main seal is the seal between the engine and transaxle (aka transmission). cost is $800 (ballpark) to fix. motor and transaxle have to be separated from each other.

Yup, I agree with armyofone. Though I don't have a es300, my car sometimes have that burning smell because my rear main seal is shot. I haven't got it fixed yet, but am keeping an eye on the oil level. I plan to get it fix as soon as xmas is over.
