That's close to the cost of a DIY oil change.

sure, if you use a cheaper group 1, 2 or 3 dino oil. Use a group 4/5 and get an all around better product. I group 3 oil can be called a synethic but it performs like a dino oil.

I have the opposite opinion...that they did it not because they wanted to, but because they felt it would be a good business move after the beating they took in the press concerning this issue. I'd say the ability of some of these owners to get their stories into the press had a lot to do with T/L stepping up to the plate and offering the extended warranties. One of the published articles involved a mom with a Toyota minivan whose idea of an oil change was taking it to Jiffy Lube whenever she remembered. Not exactly a sign of good maintenance, but I'm not going to complain about the generous extended warranty.

At any rate, we may think some of these owners are simply negligent. But a large chunk of the car-buying public considers taking their car to Jiffy Lube whenever they remember to as adequate service. And if the soccer mom in the article had issues with her Toyota minivan with such an oil change regimen, why wouldn't they? And how come they aren't reading the same articles about Honda engines? In the end, Toyota did what they had to do to keep sales from dropping. A specific issue blown up in the press involving specific engines could've ended up hurting sales across the board.

I remember hearing about that exact case you mention kreativ. And your right, this wouldn't look good for Lexus / Toyota's image......that's mainly why they are offering this extended coverage or "gesture of goodwill" not because they are 'nice' or 'caring' but instead it looks good from a PR perspective.

Mobil 1 is a group 4 but I dislike since there are better oils
Royal Purple is a group 3
Lubro Moly 5w-40 is group III and there 0-40 is a group 4. Nice "Euro" oil.

Also I would not but at least 2 out of 3 in with the list I have. No even close.

So your saying the very best overall oils that offer the best protection & can be used for 'longer intervals' are these?

I would add Lubro Moly 0w-40 to that list.

Longer intervlas is up to the oil choosen. These are group4/5 oils and are the best out there; however, I do not know there specific additive packages (zddp, etc).

I know Redline and Amsoil can go longer. The others I do not know 100% but they are very good oils.

Ok, I'm going to 'try' & throw you a curve here mburn:

With specifics (including what numbered 'groups' they are in), what is / are all the difference(s) between:

Amsoil (ASL) 5W 30 synthetic & Amsoil (XLF) XL-7500 5W 30 ? I'm going by the product information on the Amsoil website. Which would you use & why?

The Lubro Moly you mention (according to the website at least) is a Racing oil.

Amsoil ASL is a group4/5 while the XLF is more a 3; hence, the short drain intervals. I would use the ASL, which I currently use since the price is with 5% of the 7500 mile change oil. Also the ASL can go over 3X longer. ASL has a way better add package.

Yes and is a group PAO oil. So it a few others on the list.
