the quote's from a family recommended shop. yeah he kind of just threw in the fuel filter , i know that one doesn't really need to change it. the dealership wanted 1900 i believe which in itself the deal i got is a bargain, but was just wondered if it was about right. parts were around 450+ labor was 900+.(quote)

IIRC, my 100K service was approximately $1,000. That was done by an independent shop that has a labor charge of $100/hr. (which is typical around here). It was folded into some other services:

$562.50 - REPLACE TIMING BELT & WATER PUMP
$425.00 - MAJOR SERVICE AS PER ATTACHED SHEET

The Chilton's manual called for 5 hrs labor for the Timing Belt and Water Pump, plus front crank seal( you can't replace the Cam seals on the GS400 without remvoving the Cam shafts).
Coolant will need to be drain if you do the Water Pump.
Spark plugs is 1.5 hrs labor.
Fuel filter is inside the gas tank and it's a lifetime filter.
Ask him to do just these items.

I bought those OEM parts for my LS at about half of $450 so it sound like a 100% markup on parts.

90k mile service as stated by lexus USA to be performed with labor and parts as stated in the owner's manual and lexus service book for 99RX300 AWD is $1400. Prices may vary by dealers but the set price (MSRP i guess you can call it) from lexus USA is $1400.

I called lexus USA to ask them because I didn't want to get ripped. They told me $1400.

so if you get a price less than that; awesome

if they try to charge you more then i would go somewhere else.
