Question Universal Code Readers

Does anyone know if the Harbor Freight Universal Code Reader, item # 46030-1VGA will work with a 2000 ES300?
My local mechanic wants $40 to check a code, and they are selling the reader for the same price! I've downloaded the manual, and it seems like they have a fairly complete set of codes/definitions. It is supposed to work with SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J1850 VPW and ISO 9141-2. Also, where is the 16 pin OBD-II port located on the ES300?

Many thanks,

Dave

Default

The OBD-II connector on the 2000 ES is located on the lower dash cover on the driver side( right by the driver legs). It's cover with black plastic cover.

Go to your local autozone and they'll do the code reader for free. You can save that $40.00 toward the part.

Default Universal Code Reader

Thanks for the location of the connector. Unfortunately, our local Autozone has become a transmission repair shop!

Since I can use the reader on both mine and my wife's cars, it should be a reasonable investment, that is, if the Harbor Freight unit is worthwhile!
