Turn heat on, smoke comes in.
Hello,
New to the forum. I have a 93 ES with high mileage. Done lots of work, but have a new problem.
Sounds like I have an exhaust leak or problem, as well as the issue of when I turn my heat on, smoke comes in through the vents.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

The interesting thing is, if I turn the auto temp all the way to the right without pushing the auto button (and turning on the fan) I can feel heat. Could it still be the heater core?

are you losing motor oil? first thing coming to mind is a rear main seal leak...but that would have to be leaking ALOT to send smoke through the vents. more likely is your filter is clogged.

Oh yeah it can still be the heater core, especially if it smells like antifreeze. I'm not sure exactly how the system works but this happened to me on another car and that's what it was - heater core. It got to the point where it didn't matter if I had the heat on or not the smoke would just pour out of the vents. And you couldn't wipe it off the windows, either (smears). Had to drive with my head out the window once I realized the car wasn't on fire.
