Anyone know the details of changing out the ignition
A friend of my moms had her house broke into and thy stole her spare key to her IS300.The dealer told her 1000 bucks give or take.
Now I've built custom cars now for about 4-5 years and I'd like to help her out but I don know if this is something I can do myself.
I know the keys are expensive and there is no way around that, but any help here is appreciated.

Are you replacing all the locks? The ignition itself is tough, but do-able for anyone with car experience... there is a lock pin that needs to be pushed to release the ignition assy from the car. Put the key in, turn to acc, and push the pin, and the ign comes out. It requires removal of the underdash components and surrounding trim, but its not a big deal really. You'll also need to replace the door lock cylinders, glove box lock, and trunk... this is typically a 4-5 hour job (charged at a dealer) plus parts. Figure out if its worth it. Good luck.
