My auto expertise is limited to oil changes, spark plug changes, tire rotating, putting gas in it, and washing it. The rest I'm paying someone who knows what they're doing to do. I can honestly say that the reason I bought a Lexus over a Benz or Bimmer is because I didn't want to pay the maintenance cost of those cars. I don't think anyone should be gullible enough to pay the first price quoted but I don't think any of you should complain about the $$$ required to maintain your pursuit of perfection.

Rockville Lexus (Maryland) = $540.00 for 60K service
Alexandria Lexus (Virginia) = $649.98 for 60K service

I'm taking mine to Lexus of Rockville next week.

Over the phone I was told:

Replace brake fluid
Oil and Oil filter change
Air filter change
Replace air conditioner filter
Replace coolant
Rotate tires
Balance tires
Retorquing something???
Inspecting everything
Wash and vacuum car
Road testing

This doesn't include belt changes or spark plug changes. There may be more but I forgot them.

Oh yeah, they said if they can't balance your wheels because they are after market then that will be deducted from the final bill.

while this is good maintenance its not something that only lexus can do any reputable shop can do the same job and if they charge less than let them do it even better if you know how to do this stuff yourself its basically just changing fluids the parts would run you a little over $100

BY doing the spark plugs on the 60k to clean up the system for better sparks ( performance and mileage ) or you can do it @ 90k. that 650 for the service plugs plus labor for the plugs (for the gs300 owners the throttle body have to be remove to gain access to the third spark plug, ppl tend to leave one out and wonder why they have a extra ???and guess what @ 90K it's time for the T-belt.

Why make a big deal out of the cost of service? After all, we own a Lexus !!!!
We are @ the on same par as the BENZ owner and they never question why, if the vehicle need it " DO IT "........................." may be some of us are barely making the payments."

This is exactly what the dealership wants you to believe. The truth is, is that many of them will not preform the work as stated. They cut corners all the time regardless of how much you pay them.

I try to do most of the work myself, and with all the information and help available on the internet the only reason you have for not doing it yourself is lack of time. But even with this, the labor rates a dealership charges are unjustified. I would rather give my buisness to a local mechanic who would make the extra effort and charge a little less then half.

On my 2002 RX300, Lexus recommends replacing brake fluid every 2 years. Lexus doesn't mention trans/diff. drain/refill (unless color has changed), but I know that a drain/refill every year or two is widely accepted.

All cars have the same basic mech. system. Why do you think it'll be any different?
