Default SST 09228-07500 Worth It?

Hi,

I just bought a copy of the Lexus FSM for my SC300 and noticed that the oil change instructions call for a special service toyota part (SST #09228-07500) for the loosening and tightening of the oil filter. Is this worth the $35 cost from the dealer? Are there any substitutes for this tool? I'd like to get an answer for this as my father's LandCruiser required us to get a tool to remove and install the filter.

Thanks so much.

Pick up a Toyota oil filter for the SC and fit it to the "cup" type oil filter wrenches at Pep Boys for $5. Mine is a Ritefit brand- # E - 2574. It's steel with a 3/8 drive hole.

Thanks for the info guys. I take it that the filter is a hell of a lot easier to get off than the landcruisers. Going to drop by PepBoys this weekend to look for it.
