Default Loud Start

My 1992 Lexus ES300 is very loud at the start and the noise seems like its coming from the front of my car. I think that my exhaust is cracked. My question am I right and what do I have to do and spend in order to fix the cracked exhaust?

I am sure that the exhaust is cracked... the sound is not unusal it sounds like their nothing to muffle the sound and it is coming from the front end.

Get a friend to lightly rev the car while you stick your head in the engine. With a flashlight and some prying/prodding tools, check your manifold gasket. Don't touch with bare hands though unless you're certain it's cold.

I would be more inclined to think exhaust LEAK before cracked exhaust.

Yes. Exhaust leak! Like MeZoom said, possibly your exhaust manifold gasket. Could also be the connection between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust piping. Could be a host of other locations also. We're just suggesting this since an exhaust "crack" is not overly common. Rule out any leaks before you decide it's cracked. You may also want to really get in the engine and underneath it to fully inpsect the entire exhaust system.

By crack I think the manifold or piping has literally cracked open or one of the welds have come undone. A leak which is more common can be from the exhaust manifold gasket or any of the gaskets connecting the various piping together. Also, rust may have eaten away at the exhaust behind the heat shielding you see under the car.

Hey guys, its been a while. Anyway, I got my car fixed in Jan 06 and my exhaust pipe was eroded! It is a no longer loud and it just like the day I got it! I am in the process of changing the seals and gaskets. I'll be back with more updates.
