Hey guys,

I'm looking to switch from regular motor oil to synthetic at my GS400's 7000 mile oil change.

Where's the cheapest place to buy Mobil 1 oil?

Whats the "kind" of oil I will be needing, is it 5w-30?

Should I get a Mobil 1 filter as well, or go w/ the OEM Toyota/Lexus filter?

How many quarts will I need for my 4.0 liter engine?

Thanks guys!

all of these questions have been addressed on this board.
if the common terms "oil, mobil 1, etc" don't get you anywhere (likely given the state of the search feature) do a search using my nickname. i've posted in several oil topics.

here's what i can remember off the top of my head.
the oil type is specified in the manual
i used the toyota filter (=lexus filter); i got it from the dealer for 10 bucks
6 quarts is what it took (it's late so double check that in the search)

Default Mobil 1

1. Walmart sometime sells the 5 qt. jugs for ~$18.
2. 5w-30 will work, if your in the south 10w-30 is ok too.
3. Moibil 1 filter is one of the best with Toyota filters down at the low end with Fram.
4. Don't know how many quarts in V-8, I have the I-6.
Purolator Pure One is also another good filter but still not as good as Mobil 1.
Hope this helps!

IMO this is wrong. Many posts in the past have stated the Lexus filter is among the best and should be used in our cars.

I've heard the Mobil 1 filter is good too, but not the best to use in our Lexi.

Please give me some links that will show me that Mobil1 filter is not the best to be used in my Lexus. I would like to be proven wrong.

No need for the attitude Pat. This is a conversation, not a contest.

And I stand corrected. I did a search and found that the consensus was that the Lexus/Toyota filter was good but the Mobil 1 filter was superior to it with Fram much lower on the chart. I also found conflicting opinions on the value of synthetic oil in a passenger car.

Clearly being right is important to you, so you can declare yourself "right" about the Mobil 1 filter.

Gee, I may not sleep tonight. I'm so embarrassed that I was "wrong".

No attitude intended. Sorry!! I just wanted proof so I could go with the best when I change my oil.

Talking 5.5 Quarts in my GS4...

Use Mobi1. Ive been using 5 30 since 3K miles. I love it. I drive my car really hard and change every 3K. Mobil 1 hardly changes color and doesn't leave deposits like regular oil does. It also dissipates heat 10 % better.
