Default need HELP diagnosing traction control problem?

Last night during normal driving the TRAC OFF light and check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked everything and didn't notice anything different. What could possible cause this and is it okay to drive for a little while before I can get it to a mechanic? What steps should I take to getting this resolved? Any help is appreciated.

This is a check engine condiction... The fuel cap loose or missing will cause this. Mass Air Flow sensor between your throttle and air cleaner is a probable cause. This happens if the air cleaner filter is dirty. Proceedure is to have the OBD II (on board diagnostic) error checked and noted at a local "Auto Zone" parts store. They can reset the error with the reader. If you have a genuine problem, it will be back. You did not indicate your mileage. If needed, consider Toyota/Denso made parts.

Thanks. I have 102,000 miles on it. So, the check engine light and TRAC OFF light are connected or not?

Check engine affects the traction control. They are seperate functions. Trac Off can happen alone, but most of the time "Check Engine" causes Trac Off also. Hope I'm making sense to you, it's the way toyota desided to program the Electronic Engine Control Module Computer.

So, it could be something other than the traction control system that is triggering the TRAC OFF light?

Like Tammy said, bring your car (I assume it's the ES300 indicated in your profile) to an Autozone store and have the error code(s) diagnosed for free. These error codes will probably be in the format "PXXXX", where X is a digit 0-9. Take note of the error codes, and come back to us and tell us what they are, and we can go from there

It was just my fuel cap; crazy that it would set off my TRAC OFF light.
