Default Service light

I don't like to take in my car for service due to charges when i can replace everything myself (quoted 700$ for the 30k service)

So, my service light came on for the 30k and i was wondering does it manually turn off after a certain amount of miles or what?

If you have a maint req'd light from a 2004 or newer Lexus or Toyota, you can reset the light yourself. It is merely and oil change reminder light that works off of a 5,000 mile interval per reset. As for a service light on older models, that's possibly something you will need to see a tech for.

From your profile you got a 1997 SC300 and you don't have the maint light back then. I beleive you mean the CEL ( Check Engine Light). If this is the case you will need to get your car check for trouble code.

Yeah, but i'm talking about my 2005 IS300 and 2004 RX330. So, me simply doing an oil change would trigger a sensor to turn the service light off? I guess what i'm asking is HOW do i turn off the light.

In my RX, I used to pull either the EFI fuse or pull of the negative battery cable for a few seconds with a CEL until I got my Actron OBDII scanner.

Service Reminider Light reset procedure. (NOT for turning off the Check Engine Light).


1. With your car OFF, place your key in the ignition and turn to "On". Do not start the car.
2. Find the odometer button and press until it reads the total odometer setting,
(not the Trip A or Trip B setting).
3. Turn the key to OFF.
4. Place your finger back on the odometer button, press and hold. At the same time,
turn the key back to "On".
5. Hold the odometer button in until the MAINT REQD light goes out...should take
about 8-10 seconds.

try it on your Accord.
I know this same procedure works on a 2004 Sienna and a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero.
