Replacing serpentine belt...
Mine is starting to squeal so I'm going to be replacing it soon. I was wondering if they are all about the same? I'm looking at the Goodyear Gatorback and it says its supposed to reduce operating noise by 15DB. Just wondering if there were any actual/real differences with the belt...Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

I actually just replaced my OEM Toyota belt with the Gatorback Poly-V belt. It is actually a lot quieter now. I was pleasantly surprised. Now, the OEM belt was very old (~45 miles) but had no cracks and no obvious wear, the toyota markings were still visible. I had just replaced my tensioner bearing which reduced the majority of the noise, but some was still there. Going to the Gatorback, really surprised me as to how much noise the accessory belt can contribute.

Thanks for the reply . I think I might need to change the tensioner bearing as well. Where did you get it from? Im looking at a website right now, the one I found the belt on, and they dont have them.

I just replaced the bearing, not the whole tensioner. You can pick it up at any NAPA store. I think it is universal bearing 1603 (or something) sealed. Hammer out the old, hammer in the new and pop it back on. Do a search in the SC300/400 engines forum for 'tensioner bearing' and it should pop up. It cost me a total of $5.00 and about 45 minutes of labor. Most of that spent cleaning the pulley.
I have the 300, but for the 400, there are actually 2 pulleys each with different part numbers. Like I said, do a search, there is a lot written about it.
