I'm presently at approx 95K miles and haven't changed the water pump and timing belt, and I'm wondering how far I should go.
Does anyone have any experience with their 430 (or 400) going past 90K?
thx

My concern is time. It seems to me that 120K in 4 years would be better than 90K in 10 years. My point is that many circumstances have an impact on these decisions and it seems reasonable to me that Lexus guidelines in the owner's manual take most of these into account resulting in somewhat conservative guidelines which can be pushed to greater limits.......but why??

I bought a LS 400 in 1990. I drove it 350,000 miles and i changed the Timming Belts at 120,000 miles with no problem! I put in a new water Pump at 300,000 miles. Nothing wrong with the water pump but I was having some work done so I had it changed just in case!

Just like Outlawtitan stated that the Lexus guideline is somewhat conservative maintenance, but there a reason behind.
On the engine with VVT-i such as on the GS, LS, RX, ES and SC are Interference engine. If the timing belt break or the water pump locked up it will trash the engine. Lexus just recommend them in conservative way to prevent major damage to the engine.
How far you want to go is up to you? It one of those things like your light bulb that you'll never know when it will go out, but Lexus never recommend you to replace all the light bulbs at 90K miles....

Those belts can go considerably farther than 90k, but on an $8000 motor is it really worth the risk? Your engine is an interference one, so if it breaks you can kiss your pistons and valves goodbye. The only sure way to tell how much life is left in the belt without removing it is to pull off one or more of the timing belt covers and see for yourself. Personally, I'd change it at 90k. Not only does it provide peach of mind, it may also help if you decide to resell the vehicle by showing that you maintained the vehicle by the book and in a timely manner.

I had my my timing belt replaced at 90K and 180K miles. Currently I'm at 255K miles. I still have the original water pump and I will change that when I change the timing belt again at 270K miles. It's better to be safe than sorry...

I was just quoted $910 with labor and parts for timing belt, serp belt, water pump, new tensioner, everything at my local Toyota dealership. I think thats a great deal. What about everyone else?
