Default losing coolant

so the ES250 is losing quite a bit of coolant. i thought it may be a bad head gasket so i checked for bubbles in the rad when the pump is running...no bubbles to be seen.

the water pump is new. the rad is relatively new. it doesn't seem to leak on the parking spot too badly. there are dark dots on the parking spot. i assume it's a bit of oil.

the exhaust has always smelled pretty odd.

where am i losing coolant?

i notice the engine knocks a bit on idle.

Check your heater hoses for seepage and wear. Sometimes they drip down on exhaust manifolds or pipes.
(Coolant hoses go bad from the inside out).

Inspect the spark plugs for white coolant contamination

Check the compression in all cylinders, they should be within a 5 psi range

Check the heater valve for leakage.

Check the seals on the pressure cap for cracks or wear in the rubber.

Have you serviced the anti-freeze/coolant lately?

great tips. the glycol/water was flushed and replaced after the pump was replaced.

i heard that adding a raw egg to the system works wonders. it should be added when the engine is at normal temp.

the oil level hasn't changed. looks normal too. exhaust isn't white smoke.
