Default Engine and transmission rebuild

I have a 1994 sc400 with 110k miles on it.
And I checked at the dealer where they have all the records for this car when the previous owner had it and it said that this car has never undergone a transmission rebuild.
So at 110k I assume that it's about to die so I want to know if it's better to rebuild or buy a new transmission.
Will a rebuild really keep the tranny going to 200k trouble free?
Or is it better just to replace the whole thing?
The same thing for the engine.
Is it worth it to rebuild it or buy a new one?
Have any of you rebuilded your engine and is it still reliable?
I also want to know if I can put a 2000 engine in my 94.
If I can do that then I assume that I can get an engine woth 70k miles on it and it will be good to go for another 40 to 50k.

Is there something wrong with the present engine and transmission? If the engine is not burning oil and the transmission is not acting up, 110K is not that much millage for a Lexus.

I would not rebuild anything if there is nothing wrong with it.The engine and transmission should last a lot longer than 110k miles as long as the maintenence is done (oil changes,trans fluid,timing belt,etc)

My lexus has gone 210,000 without a transmission/engine rebuild

I would only rebuild the engine and trans if your looking for more performance and power, otherwise with regular routine maintenance the car should go into 300k with no rebuild, this is not an oldschool GM or Ford

No.
The Engine is not burning oil but it has 110k miles on it and I know for a fact that all engines and transmissions go up to 125k miles.
My brother's car transmission died at 124 k and his engine is a mess and I also have a 92 Plymouth Acclaim that I'm working on right now that I just finished rebuilding the transmission and I'm now starting with the engine.
And it has 110k miles on it.
That's the same mileage as my sc and since I'm getting money right now I taught I could do it so I can drive worry free for the next 2 years or so.
But I want to know if I can get like a 2000 engine with less miles on it to put in my 94.
Is it the same engine?
Will it fit?
And the tranny too.
Will a year 2000 tranny work on my car.
Or will I have to change to OBD2 to make it work?
Is it easy to change to OBD2?

DONT DO IT!

if it ain't broke why are you putting money into it?

You would be better served put that money in the bank and let it earn interest.

Toyota is not Plymouth acclaim.

My Celica went 160K miles on same engine, tranny and CLUTCH.
up and down SF downtown for over 10years. That right same CLUTCH!

these cars are reliable. if you just do the reg maintenance like the folks above have recommended you should be good for not 2 years but more like 10 years.

You shouldn't even be close to needing a rebuild if that car was looked after. Mine has 156,000 miles on it and it runs like new. Dang, I even seen GM vehicles go WAY beyond 110,000 miles without touching the engine or transmission. My mom's 97 Olds LSS has 200,000 miles and still going strong. As far as the 2000 engine goes, i can't help you out there, but its not a drastic change in power if thats what your looking for.

Why in the world would you think about rebuilding a motor if there is nothing wrong with it? 110k for a lexus motor is nothing.
I know plenty of people who are close to 200k with no rebuild.

Just change the fluids all around to be safe and check for any leaks. (Coolant, trans fluid and oil etc.)
You should not have any issues with that motor and trans if it was maintained.

Don't even compare a Plymouth to Lexus/Toyota Engineering.
Why do you think Lexus has such a high resale value...

Don't waste you money..

Get your fluids in good shape, (flush your tranny & use toyota T-IV) & enjoy.


My 94 LS has 186,526 & runs smooth as can be. If you are just dying to spend money on it by a new air flow meter (AFM) & some plugs. The one you have is still functioning but new would be better.

Nobody does this until failure due to the cost of the part, btw.
