Hey, I've been hearing this loose knocking noise coming from the front driver’s side shocks while driving. I thought at first it was my coilovers but noticed that it didn't do it on all bumps but at times when the tire was not on a flat rode. I jacked up the car and checked for any loose bolts and what not. I fold that I can pull the tire outwards from the socket of the axel, I CANNOT do this from my passengers side. I can move the tire back and forth and it looks as the axel pipe is the part that is loose.
I'm afraid my axel might break off or do some serious damage to my car.
I am taking my car to the shop tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone might know what I am looking at. Does anyone know what kind of problem this might be? Serious, easy fix, etc. Thanks in advance.

Without the model and year of your vehicle my best guess would be you got a loose wheel bearing.

Ding ding ding!!! You got it lexmex, that's what it was. I will be having both arms replaced tomorrow. My miles on my 98 ES are around 150,000 so my mechanic recommended replacing the entire thing so they should last another 150! Gracias compa!!

Well apparently the top nut on the strut of my coilover was on too tight. This caused a knocking noise on bumps and turns. Also, when I turned my steering wheel the spring would make a creaking sound (almost like an old wooden ship).
My bad lower control arms were just a coincident.
When the arms were replaced I went ahead and had installed camber bolts on the rears which caused my sway bar links to creak as well, so I was getting all these noises from the front and back it was driving me mad!!! Finally, the links were greased up, nut loosened and now my car runs so quiet it’s music to my ears!!! Btw I have d2 coilovers and I am really digging them now.
Well, thanks for the comments and on to the next project…whatever that maybe…….
