Default How to properly bleed 92 sc400 brakes?

I have been told repeatedly that the reason for my brand new brakes on my 92 sc400 being so soft is that air is in the brake lines, thus they need to be bled.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial or something specific to sc400 brake bleeding? I want to make sure I am going at this correctly.
Thanks!

It's for the LS400, but it works on almost every car. Your SC shouldn't be any different.

thanks, gsteg. i saw that in an earlier post, but was worried since, like you said, it was for the ls.

however, i was told of a way that i would just take the air out without completely flushing the system and/or adding new brake fluid. is it necessary to replace the brake fluid or can i just get by getting the air out without replacing it?

I guess just pour back the old fluid into the resevior? Brake fluid is cheap. Why not just replace it?

what kind of brake fluid would you recommend? i've never messed with brake fluid before, so i'm quite worried about doing it on my own. well, with a pumper. either way, i'm trying to be cautious of altering anything to do with the brakes on my own, and i need to be thinking about what would be best for my sc. and i probably should replace the brake fluid.

If you're worried about what fluid to use, just go with Toyota brake fluid. It should be cheap. I can't imagine it being more than $10 per liter. BTW, I used about 0.5 Liters to bleed my brakes on my GS400. On many cars I've done, hardly do you need more than 0.5L.

Have a friend help you with pumping the pedal.

-Have him/her pump the brakes 4 times. On the 4th pump, hold it down with moderate pressure and DO NOT LET GO.
-Use your wrench and open up the bleeder valve until fluid comes out. -Close the valve once your friend says the pedal is all the way down.
-Tell him/her to let go.
-Go check the fluid resevoir to make sure the fluid level isn't below Minimum. I like to have mine at max the whole time.
-Repeat the process until no more air comes out. I usually repeat this step 10 times just because you'll have enough fluid, and because it's never a bad thing to be sure you've completely bled the brakes.
-Do this to the rest of the car.

That's the basic run down. Good Luck
