Default How many pounds does it take to fill A/C

Hey I've searched and couldn't find an exact amount of freon a SC400 needs. I would check under my hood, but my sticker is gone nor do I have a owners manual. If someone could check their hood and knows that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just take your car to Gazi's bros shop. He'll recharge your system for a fair price. He discharged my system and recharged my AC for less than if I did it myself.

Approx. 1.4 lb. If you buy the r-134 in 12 oz can you will need about 2 cans ( 1lb= 16 oz). By law you will need be certified in A/C by ASE to work on the A/C system.

my lexus spec sheet says:
92-93 uses 33.44oz +/- 1.76oz of R12 or R134a
94-95 uses 29.92oz +/- 1.76oz of R134a
96-00 uses 33.51oz +/- 1.76oz of R134a

in canada, R12 is a banned substance as it has CFC's... R134a is used as a replacement, and our shop will fill to about 90% capacity of the original R12 capacity, and replace the receiver/drier, and replace all the o-rings in the system, and drain all the existing refrigerant, and oil and replace with ND-8 oil...

We still do R-12 in a/c systems here if they originally came with it.

I do not recommend a conversion at all on our cars, especially a 92. 93 may be able to get away with it, as the condenser changed to a more r-134 friendly style, however, it seems not all 93's have this r-134 friendly condenser...

Some 134 conversions will work flawlessly forever, others will work until it gets to a certain temperature outside - the basic thing is that HCF-134 systems are designed with bigger condensers over a similar capacity R-12 system. So, when you convert an R-12 system to 134, you run out of heat transfer capability at a certain point, which will vary, depending on car...

A neat fact is that some (maybe later model) '93 Lexus' have condenser cores that closely resemble size and shape of HCF134 systems... These can be changed over successfully with 90% of the capability of the original system... However, some 93 models have the larger tubed cores and these will work, though not nearly as good as the smaller tubed cores...

I do NOT recommend doing any of this yourself at home - I have seen too many blown up a/c compressors due to overfilling of the system... A proper system will need completely evacuated and recharged with the correct amount of refrigerant. Without a proper vacuum pump, you will never get all of the system evacuated properly...

I use interdynamics refill kit because of the 90'Degree nozzle head. I can't seem to get the others to work with the tight space.

I kept the 90'degree head & hose and just buy refill kits.

In Memphis, it was anywhere from 100-107'F everyday in August. I had about 16-20oz from the previous year(1 big can) but thought it was leaking because it would not cool my car in the 100's but it would freeze me at 85'F.
As i tried buying another refill can w/nozzle,
I leaked a ton out trying (without the 90'degree nozzle head). When i went back to use my 90'degree head & retachable hose at my apt, I bought 2 - smaller recharge cans(maybe 12oz) but didn't use the second one entirely. I still thought it was a little Weak, but the gauge was reading towards the high side. I probably filled it with 20ounces or less. It was nearly empty when i started because the straight style nozzle got hung up - allowing the Freon to drain.

I can check the actual Refill oz cans to make sure first, but I think I can drop another 12oz refill can and be around 30-32oz.(nearly fully charged). Too bad i can't test it out for another year. but it's really good to know for next Spring.

Thanks for the Info Narfy !
