Default Am i cleaning the K&N filter correctly?

I was using that k&N recharger filter kit, the spray not oil version.

I just wanted to make sure i was doing it right. It say not to extreme hot cause it can damage the filter. Is it ok to leave it out in the sun for over 1 hour? it dried it nicely but the filter when i touched it wasn't that hot. Also, after driving it and coming back home i notice that on the bottom of the air intake box, there are some liquid, it was red and i believe it was the oil of the filter, a good amount, but not to much. Does that mean i used too much oil on the filter or it is normal? Should i clean it off or will it just dry up in the heat?

you're supposed to run a very thin line thru the top of the pleats. i believe you might have put a little too much oil. you can take a paper towel to soak up some over oiled pleats a bit.

1 hour is not enough time to dry the filter. here's what I usually do

1. spray on the cleaning solution, wait for 15 minutes, hose it off. (I do this step twice)

2. air dry it for at least 5 hours

3. oiling: I like the squeeze bottle version because it's more precise. oil ONE side only. do NOT oil both sides. let the filter sit for 30 minutes to allow the cotton soaking up the oil

4. reinstall the filter

I have the the spray type of the recharge kit and when I did it, I let the filter dry overnight and put it back in the next morning.

Good method. I would oil the side that initially takes in the incoming air, as to trap the dust immediately. If you oil the other side, or use too much oil, you risk getting oil into your MAF sensor and may damage it.

Careful.
