Default How to check code for 04 LS430

Help needed,

How do I check the trouble code for an 04 LS430 without a scan tool? Does these newer car have the DTC for us to plug in the E1 and T1 ports?

If I have to buy a scan tool, which one should I buy beside the Lexus dealer scan tool.

Thanks in Advance

Cant scan without a tool like the pre-96 cars. However, you can go into autozone, or advanced auto parts, and they will scan, and run the codes for FREE (saving that $100bucs). Then you can look up the code online for the specific problem.

No, its over 50K miles already. I like to fix my own cars, unless I can't/don't have the ability to trouble shoot the problem then I try other places. I only take any of my cars to the dealer for warranty work.

If its an emissions related code, such as an oxygen sensor code or EVAP system code, you still have warranty until 70k miles i beleive.

Thanks RTGS400,

I haven't get around to get the codes yet. I disconnect the battery negative cable off to erase the code/light. It has been more than 300 miles and it hasn't came back yet.

Do you have any recommendation on brand/cost for a code reader for a back yard mechanic
