I think the cabin air filter is the same thing. Its in the underside of the passenger side dash. You need to remove the panel right above where the passenger's feet would go. The cabin air filter is located here. Pull down until it reaches the floor, then bend it toward you. It is segmented into two parts, so half will bend toward you so you have room to pull the rest out. You can now buy a new one at the dealership or buy some filtrete at home depot. They both work fine.

Not all the SC's had cabin air filters. I went through this on mine its a 92 SC400. If the production date of the car was pre-Sept 92 it will NOT have a cabin air filter.
There are a bunch of threads on this in the SC 300/400 forum I would do some searches there it could be a bunch of things. I just dont recall what all they were or point you in the wrong direction.

cabin filter/ AC filter should be the same thing..what onejay said is correct. the 2 wingnuts takes out the cover to the filters, and replace by 2 filters. at least the oem toyota ones were segmented into 2 parts. slide up and slide over for the first filter and up for the 2nd. oems are like ~40 50 bucks and they have the odor elimanator thing, but i cant really tell if it works. when i got my cover out their was NO Filter! Just dirt, dusts and leaves!

Thanks for the detailed directions but I wonder if he is in the same boat as me, his being a 1992 as well. So my question then is will the filter pocket just be empty and still have the ability to put one in or am I S.O.L? I havent taken mine apart but guess its simple enough to do so I was just curious and would it be the same part # as the 1993?

Odd I pulled everything off and had one filter in there but it was the 1st filter to slide up and over. The 2nd filter is not present. Need to find out if mine was designed for both or not. They want $95 for the damn filter...holy crap.

$95 for cabin filters? You're shopping at the wrong places.

Yeah my local dealer...called Sewell though and they set me right and saved me ALOT of $$$$ had it in stock AND were able to answer all my questions. My local Lexus dealer could not!
My panel had 4 wing nuts to remove and I found out the filter in there was the original one from factory and riddled with debris and particulates though it did not smell. The second one was not replaced. The package is 2 sets of filters they are like 4 little filters. The part number from Lexus is 88880-30040 in case anybody is curious....thats for a 1992 SC400 BTW! I am waiting for them to be delivered.
