what do you do with your old oil after you change it yourself?

I usually go to Autozone or Kragens to recycle too. I like to use the big laundry detergent jugs. I also just found out that the city will send us containers for used oil and pick it up for free as well. So try your city's recycling center as well. Not sure if they will accept filters, but Autozone and Kragen's accepts them.

Yep, I take mine to autozone or checkers and just dump it in the big tank they have. I pour mine in some plastic water jugs I save and reuse everytime.
What about the oil filters? Are those recycled, if so where? I've been meaning to ask at autozone but I keep forgetting. I've just been holding on to them for now because I didn't want to just throw them away.

More then just auto supply shops, all the quick oilchange places (e.g. jiffy lube, speedee) usually accept DIY amount of material(filters+oil).
One more thing, use clean water/milk jugs or dedicated oil container only.
Don't use detergent or other chemical containers (Tx fluid, antifreeze, bleach, vinegar, etc) Not only will it contaminate the oil,
some places will turn you away and force you to go to your city dump to turn it in as hazardous waste.

Wow, wish I had room for 2 - 55 gallon drums ! Thats impressive.
We also take it to the local auto parts around here - Schucks - and they have a big container in back of the counter where you pour it in.
Here is one thing you need to remember - sometimes that big container there is FULL, and they wont take your oil - so its sometimes a good idea to call ahead and see if they are accepting it that day.
I drain mine into a plastic container that I pour into a closed container that I take to the auto parts place..

I bought one of the oil cans from auto zone, but the city also provides containers. I take it to Autozone or Kragen.
Break fluid/power steering fluid has to go to the city dump where you put it into a hazardous waste container.
DO NOT put it down the DRAIN, I don't want to sound like a treehugger but oil seriously destroys the environment. It leaks into the underground water system...
