royal purple ATF
so i went to aamco on sat to get a power purge on the tranny and they tell me to purge the tranny it will take 11-12 quarts of royal purple to do the job.
Do you guys think its worth doing or should i just drain it and put in the royal.
to do the power purge is 100 and the royal atf is about 140
i have 85k on the car and the oem atf fulid. thanks

DONT do those power flushes. You may be doing more harm to your car than not.
For the price, I'd rather buy amsoil universal ATF than Royal Purple just because Amsoil is proven on our cars to last longer than OEM fluid.
If you drain it, you'll only be getting ~2-3 quarts out. It's a waste of money. Search the forum on how to DIY flush your car the safe way. You can do it yourself and save the $100.

FIND THIS TREAD--> This any good? AAMCO Power Purge and Transmission Flush/Filter Change
Anyone think this Aamco transmission flush/chamg is a good deal? - Club Lexus Forums

Check the remarks I've gotten at this tread, 12 so far. Fair warning is given to just drain/refill as well as some strong warnings to avoid Aamco. Trukn1 and Dave Mac say to pretty much avoid a purge/flush & Aamco at all costs. I just had the fluid drained today and refilled with Toyota type IV trans fluid (cost me $30 at my mechanic's to drain/fill and fluid I bought was $6.77/qt at Toyota - only 3-3.5 qts needed). I've only driven like 35-40 miles since, but what a difference. Smooooother, softer, and even a little quieter - a noticeable difference and well worth the ≈ $60.00.
Review existing treads, there are many friendly/helpful people here that offer reliable advice...I just spent $60 per advice given here, ½ Aamco's alleged $99.95 cost, and will sleep better after getting advice here. Good luck

i do a drain my tranny every oil change using 2 qts of oem atf. it takes longer but it's much safer and easier. cost me around 10 dollars including the washer. i am planning on doing it 5-7 times, then most of the atf will be new.
