Can I use Amsoil ATF when my tranny requires Dexron II??
Well I have a 2001 Corolla and I am ready for to change the transmission fluid.
My 2001 Corolla requires just Dexron II fluid. Is it okay that I put in Amsoil synthetic ATF fluid in there?
Some people say it is and some people sware not to do it.
Just want to get some people's opinions.
Thanks!

You can use it. It meets Dexron II, III, IV standard. You can use it in just about any transmission minus CVTs. I dont know why people are swearing not to use it. They must be stuck on the "OEM is the only option" mentality. Sure there are things where you want to use OEM-only, but Amsoil Universal ATF is okay.

It shows Dexron II listed here, http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx
I used it in my RX300 (which normally takes Type-IV) and have no issues whatsoever, much better shifting.

What has me confused is this Toyota Table showing which fluids are okay to use with specific transmissions.
According to this table Toyota does not want you to use anything other the Dexron.
I even read some posts at the RX300 forum here that a few people experienced hard weird shifts when they changed to Amsoil ATF.
So what do you guys suggest? Just use oem Dexron or go all out and use Amsoil? I just want the best for my car even though it is a Corolla and not a Lexus. lol.

I only know of one issue with someone and their RX300 and Amsoil.
What I noticed when I first switched to it (and even after the third drain and fill) that sometimes when it warms up, it takes a bit longer (this is due to an emissions reason) to let you out of first gear, but once it's warmed up I have not felt an issue otherwise and the shifts are much smoother.
My college roommate has a Z06 that called for Dexron III in his tranny and I also switched him over to Amsoil ATF and no issues to speak of.
