Actually the thing is people say that when you have a high mileage tranny you shouldn't do a strait flush because that can actually damage the transmission and render it unusable that's why I do this because then it will drain it slower and overtime not at once so it doesn't cause damage.
My mom did it all the time with her 2002 Ford Taurus wagon she used to not only change the fluid every 3000 miles but also the tranny fluid filter because in Ford cars they clog very rapidly and that is what actually ruin the transmissions at a very early age.
NOw she's still doing it with teh navigator and that's a new car but she keeps doing it to maintain clean fluid all the time.
So that's the idea just the same with a used car just do a drain and fill at every oil change to slowly get rid of the old fluid because you can't do a flush on an engine with more then 50k and then keep doing it to maintain clean fluid all teh time that will actually make your tranny last longer.

I think that is a good job actually, the idea is simple but it is actually a great maintenance.

sorry to say this, but the "fresh" red fluid you see when you check your dipstick is just the fluid that stuck to the sides of the fill tube...
