Default P0440, P0441, P0446 + crackling sound from cats i think

Prevoisly b4 1 week i had cleared OBD codes P0440,P0446

So today i got CEL on today with errors:
P0440 : Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
P0441 : Evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow
P0446 : Evaporative Emission control system Vent control circuit Malfunction

I thing its related to my cats crackling sound from this area see pic.
I can hear crackling sound + few smoke from this area see attached pic ?!
Same sound continues for about 10 minutes or less even after turning off the engine.

i had recorded this video for cats crackling sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hQ4Vdfc6bw

Any ideas what to do / check? I appreciate any type of input.

I would think it is just the exhaust system cooling down or the heatshields. My 1SC does the same thing when it runs or after the car is off after a drive.

Your CEL is not related to the crackling sound heard from the heat shields on your exhaust. It's likely that the purge valve of your evaporative emissions system has malfunctioned.

P0440 is the big leak in the evap system, such as loose gas cap, loose evap hose and it will set the another code.
If you tell us the year and model of your car that would help a lot. I went to take a look in your profile, I believe your car is LS400 or 430.

Am also having a problem where fuels come out on every overfilling of tank with fuel. maybe this is Causing P0446?! right?

Any one has this problem with his car? How to solve this?

I had googled for this, I think maybe i have to change the
Fuel tank over fill check valve which maybe cracked or damaged.

But i cant see this part in my repair manual!
I had attached page of fuel tank.

Please help!

monitor stft with a scanner while ur spraying carb cleaner on the hoses if it goes negative then that means tere is a vacum leak and the injectors are cutting fuel pulse width or duration to compensating for the less coming air...
also activate the valve and see if the clicks and functions well..

and before all of that check ur gas cap..

charcoal canisters in my opinion never fail , also Fuel tank over fill check valve.. they just don't

in Toyota's, the failure listed has nothing to do with the vacuum lines in the engine bay, as some evap systems do... the toyota's are electronic valves, not controlled by vacuum... when this code sets, it is almost always a faulty solenoid... the only "vacuum" line in this system is the line from the evap stuff in the back to the engine itself -

charcoal canisters do not fail in the sense that they wear out, but, I have definitely seen charcoal canisters in need of replacement - people sometimes top off their fuel too much and it ends up in the evaporative emissions hoses - this floods the charcoal canister, requiring replacement... certain cars are much more prone to this than others

either way, this post is a few years old and doesn't appear that it needs resurrecting...

Just a heads up in my 2001 LS430, i had the same 3 codes

P0440 : Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
P0446 : Evaporative Emission control system Vent control circuit Malfunction

turned out, one of my EVAP hoses(i think it was the fuel return?) had cracked in half.. Check to see if there are any broken or disconnected hoses under your hood.

Another common issue on the LS/GS is broken engine mounts. When they break, its common to see the evap line pulled out on the driver side from excessive engine movement.

May I ask you the location of the EVAP hose that was cracked in half? Since I have the exact same vehicle as yours, chances are the problem could occur at the same location.

My error code is only P0440 though. Thank you

dubsta1,

Could you please provide me the location of evap regulator you have replaced? How did diagnose the faulty part? I have been struggling with P0440 code over a year, but still have no clue how to fix this.

Thank you.
