Default How hard/easy is to replace rotors on RX300?

I am thinking of doing the brakes myself. If the rotors need to be replaced, how hard is to do it and do I need a special tool? I used the search tool and could not find this info.

Also, what brand you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Robert

You can use the duralast rotors from autozone, they are decent if you are not looking to spend lots of money. They have a Lifetime warranty too so if they ever warp, take em off and take em back, and get new ones free.

No special tool, see my how-to workshop here:

Great info and tutorial THANKS!!!

As for the brake pads manufacturer, what mid-level price range pads should I look for? I checked with Autozone and they have prostop with prices range from $15-50 per axle. Are their mid level pads any good?

They are definately adequate for the average person. I have been using autozone brand parts for years on all types of cars with no ill effects. Plus with the Military discount (I am in the army), it makes them all that much better, but their prices are already rock bottom...considering.

I remember one time, Advance Auto wanted $50 for a serpentine belt for my 05 Matrix (dont have it anymore). I was on a 6700 mile road trip and needed a cheap replacement (ltd. budget). Autozone had one for $19.99, minus the 10% discount.

IMO, for best results/life of parts and least amount of brakedust, I would combine Duralast gold rotors with duralast gold pads. For cars that are more than 5 years old, autozone is a lifesaver, as by that point, MOST vehicles are well beyond being worth putting dealership parts/labor prices into. A lexus is a different case, but for things like brakes and halfshafts, autozone is great. I dont think I would go with an autozone powersteering pump though unless you can yank it out yourself. The Lifetime warranty is great and autozone is usually SUPERB about honoring it (usually no questions asked), providing you can provide a reciept. So for the DIY-er, Autozone is your friend.
