hey everyone
yes, its another oil thread
i used to use mobil 2 fully synthetic on my 2003 camry and it seemed to run smoother and perform better, but ive heard mixed reviews of M1...
i just got my 2003 ES300 with 71k on it, and it has been exclusively lexus maintained with whatever oil lexus uses at the dealerships...im looking at upgrading to a better 5w-30 synthetic oil, and i was wondering which oil will offer the best wear protection and protection against sludge and varnish...
i change my oil every 3-3.5k miles and i use the oem toyota filters.
ive been looking at:
M1 fully synthetic 5w-30
royal purple full synthetic 5w-30
amsoil full synthetic 5w-30
any advice is great!

I use Castrol 0W30. The ES300 and my RX300 use a similar 1MZFE. I had consumption issues in Mexico in the last few years I was running M1 (seemed to occur right after they did some formulation changes) and then got hold of the Castrol 0W30 at a BMW dealer there and those issues stopped. In the U.S., I have only seen it at Autozone and Pep Boys.
Amsoil is also an excellent oil, you can't go wrong there either. Of course you can get online but I have also seen it at Carquest stores.
One other one I would throw up there and you can run it 5W30 is Pennzoil Platinum. That you can get just about at any place that sells motor oil.

I would actually use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 because when you look at the oil analysis(both virgin and used oil) the wear numbers are really low, much better than Mobil 1 and it also has a boat loads of detergents to keep the engine clean. We all know that the 1mz-fe is the sludge monstor. But if I had to choose from the 3 above you mentioned I would definately choose Amsoil. BTW you dont need to change your oil at 3k or 3.5k. Modern oils are so good that even conventional oil can go 5k miles without a problem. Since you are using a synthetic, 5k would be a breeze for it.
