OEM is cheap and good if you feel like changing it often. I'd say every 15k miles. Amsoil if you race alot and put extreme stress on your transmission. I personally run the oem T-IV fluid and flush it every oil change. As for my supra, I run the Amsoil ATF because it sees extreme race conditions.

I am getting ready to do a transmission flush and have been contemplating this as well. Seems that the OEM stuff does a good job, but the Amsoil is a step above even if you don't race or put significant stress on your transmission.

I have put over 50K on Amsoil ATF and sent a sample to generate a lab report. The wear metal counts, which are indications of wears, and physical properties are much better than Toyota T-IV.

flush it every oil change? I know preventative maintenance is good, but that is overkill my friend...

personally, the most I would ever do would be every second oil change (every 9-10k), do a trans drain and fill... only need to replace 3 qts or so, but it keeps it plenty fresh....

I have a built transmission both in my GS300 and Supra. I compete on road course and Drag race so $10 towards every oil change is cheap maintance for me if you consider replacing a built transmission is not cheap. Talk about $2K+ for every tranny rebuild. So far, the transmission in the GS has held up for the last two years and the Supra tranny just let go because of a seal.

I just ordered 14 qts of Amsoil so that I could do a full flush on the system. I know I ordered a little more than what is necessary because I couldn't get a straight answer on how much was needed for a 2003 GS 300. I read 12, 12.5, and 13 quarts from varying people. Does anyone actually know how much?

Man, that must've hurt your pocket quite alot with that amount of amsoil fluid. As far as flushing it, you'd really only need 8 quart for a complete flush. The machine that toyota use takes approx. 10.6 quarts but you know how they are, they like to charge you a little more. From my personal experience, I wouldn't bother going to toyota for the flush. I'd first drop the transmission pan and remove the filter/strainer. then I'd let it all drain out. Clean the pan, and then use the toyota RTV sealant to seal up the pan. Let it dry for a few hours. Come back with a pair of clean bucket and disconnect the transmission line that comes out of the transmission and place that line in a gallon pail or bucket. Start the car up and place a small funnel into the transmission dip stick and start pouring fluid into the system. Have another friend sit in the car and shift the transmission through all the gears every 5 second. After you flush out a good amount (I'd say 4-5 quarts), stop the car and reconnect the line back into the radiator. Then start the car back up and fill it up to proper level. **When you drop the transmission pan and see that the fluid is dark brown, I'd go get three quarts of toyota T-IV and use that to flush through the transmission before adding the amsoil. If you're not sure what to do, I'll be down in atlanta for two weeks starting mid April and can help you out.

quick question, had my gs400 for about 10k miles, previous owner seem to have it up to date with maintenance(but not sure). I'm planing on drain and refill the transmision but am not sure of the brand of ATF previous owner used before. Question is should i go ahead and drain the pan and refill with the brand i want to use(Amsoil)? or do a full flush? (also in a budget with no job) sry for the noob question.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just stick with toyota type IV ATF. No need to change it since you're not tracking the car.
