Default Help a newbie out!! 1st oil change!!

Sup guys!!

I got a new 09 IS350 and its time for my 1st oil change!

I don't know anything about maintainance but I'm really trying to take good care of my car. I've been looking through these forums for which type of oil to use but I feel kinda overwhelmed at all this information!

I've narrowed it down to a few things though! Just wanted to see if anyone thinks these will be fine or if I should use something better, don't really care about the cost I want the best products!

For the oil, I'm going with synthetic!! I guess 5W:30?? should i use 5W:20 or something else?? probably from AMSOIL or Mobil 1??? These brands good?

For Oil filter, I'm thinking Napa Gold or the Lexus OEM filter?? but I'm wondering if Napa has access to the official product specs? Anyone know?

If it helps, I'm just driving the car locally from home to work and around town during weekends. No racing, no long trips, nothing crazy!

Any input is greatly appreciated! THanks!!

I believe you get your first oil change for free at the Lexus dealership.

Anyways, I strongly advise you to search because this topic is always discussed. There are tons of good info on here on what oil and filter to use. It's mainly based on personal preference. You can't go wrong with either AMSOIL or Mobil1 (synthetic of course). AMSOIL is better quality oil but a lot more expensive. OEM filter is just fine. I only use Mobil1 5W30 w/Mobil1 filter but that is just my preference. Never had any issues. Lexus recommends 5w30 so there's no reason to change. Unless it's different for the is350....check your manual.

So, if you don't care about cost then try out AMSOIL you can't go wrong with it. Search and you will find tons of reviews.
GL!

Yes first oil change is free but I think they do it at 5000 miles!

I am set on getting an oil change every 3000 miles, but everyone tells me since my car is brand new, my first oil change should be earlier than when you should normally get it!

So I am gonna sneak in my first oil change at 1000 miles! Then 3000, then 6000, 9000....etc!!!

Suggest you just change at Lexus dealer at 5000 mile. Opt up to Mobil 1 and pay the little difference. Continue with Mobil 1 and OEM Lexus filter for life of car.

Just my opinion.

No need to change oil at 3000 mile intervals.

Thats an old wives tale now...with modern oils, 5,000 on a conventional is a good interval. for a synthetic, I have pushed my little civic as far as 7,500 miles on one oil change before with little difference in performance. Upon having an oil analysis done at my local lab for a small fee, I found the Mobil 1 5w-20 could havbe went for 2, maybe even 3,000 more miles.

Its true, in 1979, noone could have imagined 5000 miles on one oil change. in 1999 noone could have imagined 7,000 miles. But now, we have sufficient advances in synthetics and nanopolymers, that we can go 10,000 miles or more on one oil change...
