How do you drain and re-fill the differential gear??
#16
I just got some clear vinyl tubing that will fit tightly in the fill hole on the differential (about 4 feet long) and ran it out behind my right rear wheel. I then found a funnel that fit the vinyl tubing and poured the Amsoil 75-90W (pretty blue) into the funnel until it started leaking out of the fill hole. I then knew it was full. Pulled out hose and let overflow run out and replaced plug. Actually very easy. Now changing your brake fluid is another matter......ha

thanks guys,
I had posted a write up on my website.
Also, changing the brake fluid is pretty simple.
open the 2 bleeding nuts on each front brake, open the brake fluid container in the engine (where you fill your brake fluid)
just keep pumping on the brake pedal until just air comming out the 2 front bleed nuts.
Close the front bleed nuts, open the rear nuts, do the same..
refill the fluid container/holder in the engine, keep filling when another person pump on the brake, keep pouring until there are NO bubble comming out from the rear bleed nuts (you can close 1 nut, and do 1 at a time) ==>notes: CLEAN brake fluid comming out of the bleed nut, NO BUBBLE
keep pumping and refilling for the other bleed nuts.
this way, it will make sure that you don't have AIR in your brake system.
that is it.

The lexus book called for changing differential fluild at 30K service.
I don't care if the oil last 100K, I changed them anyway. (I like synthetic oil Same apply to Engine oil, the oil should last 10K or more, but the filter need to be replace every 5K. I change my oil anyway at 5K (called the LOVE for the GS)
I had checked the 99 owner manual several times, they clearly shown a differential fluid change at 30K.
I had flushed haft of the brake fluid out when I change my front brake pad a few months back.
(use the "bleeder nut" they are located on each caliper )
Gebo, Don't tell me that you had use something to suck out the fluid from the refill container ? hee hee (that will not get all the fluild out, most of the fluild in trap inside the brake master cylinder and the lines)

Well, well, well,
First of all, I loosened the plastic brake fluid holder by removing the screw. THen I tilted it up and let all the brake fluid run out down thru all the stuff and into a pan. I then replaced the brake fluid container, re-attached the holder screw and filled it back up with fresh fluid. I then went and got 4 pcs of clear hose that would fit over the bleeder valves. About 1 1/2 ft long. loosened all 4 bleeder valves, attached hose to end of valves and run hose into 4 pint jars. I kept adding fluid to reserviour until I had run a pint out of each valve, wheel. Tightened valves up, removed hoses, topped off reservour and presto!!! Believe or not, no air in system. Took 4 hrs. Gravity sort of took its own time. HAHAHAHA!! Am I nuts or what??? But remember, I'm by myself.

Could someone clear this for me because I'm now confused. I have a 93 LS and I plan to change my differential oil. Does my car use oil WITH limited slip friction modifiers or WITHOUT? Thanks.

My maintenance book says the dealer is supposed to drain and refill transmission/diff oil every 15,000 miles. (93gs300)
I am going to call them and see if they have, in fact, been doing this.
