Switching oil grades for different seasons

Is it important to switch the grade of oil (lower or higher viscosity) for different seasons? I live in Northern Califorinia which has a temperate climate.
In the winter temps, get down to about 35 at night and as high as 105 in the summer. Not sure if I should be changing oil grades in my vehicles in the winter and summer.
But there are summers I drive to Las Vegas (120 degrees) and winters where I drive into the Sierra Nevada mountains (as low as 0 degrees F).
Is it important to have my oil changed to a different viscosity oil before I take trips to such extreme temperatures?
Does the same rules (advice on switching) apply to both synthetic and dino oil?

all of those temperatures fall within your recommended oil temperature ranges...
in your owners manual are temperature ranges for different weights of oil...
unless you are going to be in one climate a lot longer than another, then I would not worry about it for something like a week long trip...
