My understanding is that you have to drop the engine splash shield. On the other hand, one time when I was changing the filter I couldn't loosen it from the bottom, and I got to it from the top. So, I was wondering myself if it is possible to do it from the top only. Next time I'll get to the oil change I will probably try to do it from the top.

Thanks Chris for respounding, I changed the oil today, took me a total of 4 hours, I first had to make my ramps longer spoiler didn't hit ramps, after that the oil filter is in a bad place with power steering hoses . transmission lines and another line I couldn't find where it went, You would think the Japs build the cars the make so well, they could mount the oil filter in a place where you can get at it easiler, it was a job to get it out, tried going from the top, I think removing lower shields is the way to go, but hey, took me about an hour to get at the filter after going to the auto parts stone and purchased 4 oil wrenches and fighting it the whole way. there has to be a better way??
