Question Soft Brake Pedal

Hi, I am happy I found this club. I too, am a proud owner of 1998 Lexus SC400. I have had it for about a year, the car runs great, with the exception of the brakes. The brake pedal is very soft, it almost goes to the floor before the car comes to a stop. I went to a Lexus dealer to have them check out my brakes and they told me to replace the pads and rotors. I even had them bleed the lines and still the pedal feels very soft. Is this common for all Lexus SC400's or is there something else that should be checked out that was over looked? I like a tight brake pedal, how can I achieve this?

Thanks in advance.

I have 95 SC400, and my brake pedal does not feel soft, and the brakes grab while pushing the pedal about 1/4 way down.

Same for my 1990 LS... I had the pads and front rotors replaced. It helped a little, but you still have to push way down before it REALLY grabs.

when the pedal feels soft it usually means that you have air in the break system. Lexus breaks are a little softer than others but not like the way you guys describe it.... Do a breakline bleed and refill if you are doing it on your own remember youneed 2 people to do it. I would just take it to a shop... its the breaks... a little bit important... You can usually tell if there is air in the system by pumping the breaks. If pumping them helps the soft feeling go away it probably air.

one more thing on the breaks. One of the reasons why there may be air in your break system is because of a tear in the breakline. or simply seals on the break master cylinder.
