My mechanic suggests that I change my timing belt on my '93 LS400. It now has 144K and I bought it when it had 122K. I am not sure if the timing belt was changed by the previous owner or not. When I bought the car it was in great condition so I assume the timing belt was changed.
If I go ahead and have the belt changed, what else should I consider at the same time? The water pump?
Lastly, what is the typical cost to have the belt changed?

Chippern73, Most Indies and some dealers post a decal that comes with the timing belt near the radiator when its replaced. My dealer doesnt saying the work is entered into the Lexus database, viewable by other dealers and registered owner.
Go to Lexus.com, register your VIN, and you can see all previous work done on your car by Lexus Dealers. You can enter and see your own work, but it will not pass onto the next owner. See if belt was done before. You can order new owners manual for your car once every six months by clicking on box at bottom of Lexus.com page.
Google "93 LS400" and any word(s) you want to know about, like "timing belt", and see what comes up.
My Oxnard Lexus Dealer just did timing belt/water pump for wifes 02 LS430 on 2/2/10 for $1094 (Labor: $720, Parts: $374 including $193 Water Pump, $74 Timing Belt)
How often does your mx schedule say the 93 LS400 timing belt needs to be changed? Wife's 02 LS430 says every 90Kmiles and/or 72 months (6 years).
