re:How to fix "Check" & "VSC OFF" light for GS300 ??
Hey Gang;
I have a 98 GS300 ..
Lately, I have been seeing the following scenario..
After driving a little bit, the following lights come on:
Check light
VSC light
VSC OFF light
and then sometimes, the engine does NOT respond to gas pedal..
The dealer told me that it could the Pedal Sensor..which it said
would cost me $300.00 + to replace ..
Sometimes, if I open the Fuel Cap & re-screw it in real-tight,
the problem seems to go away..
But the above has been happening w/ alarming frequency..
Has anyone seen a similar problem ???
TIA

Thanks for the info...
But is the Pedal Sensor something I can replace myself
w/o having to visit the Dealer ??
And can I get one OEM or someplace else other than the Dealer.. ??
TIA

I'm very confused..
When I first bought my 00 GS300 the surge of acceleration at throttle "tip-in" was a bit much for my wife and I didn't really want to drive it in "snow" mode all the time to avoid that surge.
So I opened the hood and adjusted most of the "backlash" out of the throttle cable, the cable that connects the foot feed pedal to the intake throttle opening on the engine. That didn't help much so I went in to Lexus and asked what could be done.
The Bellevue Lexus seervice manager told me that since my GS300 had an E-throttle there was nothing that could be done as all of this was internal to the ECU that monitored the pedal position sensor.
Now I KNOW that my GS300 did not have an E-throttle, and I argued such with the service manager. And now here we are with the two of you talking as if the 98 had an E-throttle!!
Did Lexus ship two versions of the GS300??
And by the way my manual says that if any engine failure diagnostic dispaly is on then VSC and trac are automatically disabled.

Hey..WWEST..
Thanks for sharing your experience w/ me..
I believe 2001 GS300 came w/ E-Throttle...
Sounds like your Bellevue Dealer Manager is a bloody idiot..
not knowing such basic knowledge...
As for me, looks like another trip to my dealer to replace the Pedal Sensor..:-( ..
BTW, I am in Minneapolis..

actually wwest the gs is e-throttle try this take the intake boot off and undp the cable what happens to the throttle plate it stays shut.then with the cable stille undone turn the key on the plate opens.it is a e-throttle the the cables purpose is to go from the pedal to the sensor the sensor reads everything.also with the cable on and the key off manually move the sensor the plate is closed.all in all it IS a e-throttle.hope this helps.

Not that I doubt what you're saying but I sold my 00 GS300 last week and now can't look for myself.
Are you saying that the throttle foot pedal is attached to a push/pull cable which is routed through the firewall and up to the top of the engine with that end of the cable attached to a sensor that just happens to be mounted on a shaft taht appears to travel through the intake "barrell" as if it controlled the butterfly valve but it really doesn't, it's only mounted that way?
I would ahve thought that one of the main purposes of an E-throttle would be to avoid the mechanical linkage through the firewall. In the Saleen (not Mustang) and 996 the e-throttle sensor is at the foot pedal itself.
