This has been a thorn in Toyota's side for a while. At least they're trying to do right by their customers.

ES3, from what I've read this problem was reported in the V6 engine the Camry/ES300/RX300 engine family used specifically for a certain year range, and was often tied to engines that were not correctly maintained. However, Toyota did recognize the issue and deal with it for those in warranty and I think many outside of warranty. DO search on 'sludge' in the ES forums specifically and I'm sure you'll find a number of discussion threads on it.
