98 gs400 wierd fuel pump issue
Ok i had changed my fuel pump and back in buisness I was for about 2 days. Then it appeared that it had went out. the harness that plugs into the top of the fuel pump assembly was putting out 10volts when on the on position. I then wanted to make sure that I had a good connection to the pump so i check the volts there with it unpluged from pump but plugged in to the factory harness. got 10volts there as well. but when i have it plugged into pump it doesnt come on. I hooked a 18v cordless drill battery directly up to the fuel pump and it kicked on. I then hooked my 12v battery charger to it and it kicked on. Why in the world is it not kicking on when hooked up like it supposed to be. Is 10volts whats supposed to come out of the factory harness? Im thinking that the pump will work with higher than 10volts, but not with less. I know that the pump isnt supposed to be ran at 12volts so im pretty sure the 10volts im getting is what it is supposed to be.
Wierd that it worked for about 7 miles of driving. PLease help me here i am confused to death. IM looking into buying just the whole assembly with pump and all off of ebay. can get them for around 100 dollars and then I can just drop in and bolt up. Just concered that it may throw my gas hand off in the car. I was told it shouldnt but I dont know. I need some help fast!
