Smile Synthetic Oil??

Hi,

I am new to the site having just purchased a 2007 ultra premiem RX 350 - I love it so far! The car to date has always been run on mineral oil - are there any issues to now switch it over to synthetic oil? I want to keep the car for a long time so appreciate any advice!

Thanks:

Depending on the mileage, you could start to possibly see leaks on the ground from the SYN oil pushing through worn seals. But this tends to happen on older vehicles, and not a '07.

So no, there is no problem with switching.

Synthetic oil is not some "Magic" miracle, geneticlly engineered fluid.

Pretty much all synthetics are made from very high grade crude oil (typically group iV base stocks) the oil is processed in a slightly different manner and then uses different additives. About 25% of what is in the bottle is additives.

The use of high grade base stocks, special processing and expensive additives is what increases the cost.

Switching from regular oil to synthetic oil will not cause any problems. Just as switching back from synthetics to regular oil will not cause problems.

Old wives tales seem to stick around for ever.

Synthetic oil allows longer drain intervals and less chance of sludging.
Synthetics maintain their viscosity much better over the term of useage.

Go for it... and worry about important stuff instead.

Um, really the seal leaks where already there. The syn will CLEAN the area around the leak, covered by din oil, and that is why they might leak. I changed my 98 to Amsoil SSO and works fine from 100K to over 170K miles..

If you want to be assured of no oil leaks, continue using conventional oil and take car not to fill the engine above the Full mark on the dipstick.

If you want ultra long engine life and a clean, sludge free engine, use conventional oil and change it every 3,000 - 4,000 miles.
