Aftermarket filter = void warranty? (also oil change question)
I called up service and asked about it and the lady told me yes it will void engine warranty if I use aftermarket oil filter.
She was just a receptionist so I'm not sure if I can believe her.
Do you guys have any experience with this?
BTW I drive 09 is250 awd and I'm located in Canada.
P.S. What oil/filter you all recommend? How's Castrol GTX (it's on sale for $4/L!!)

In order for a dealer to void any kind of warranty, they must first prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure. So, can an aftermarket filter void a warranty, yes. Will it instantly void the warranty, no.

Oil etc filters
For the DIY'ers WIX (Top quality) filters are available at a reasonable price on line from Filter One. You need to buy a few to get free shipping but great service and availability. The web site gets you to a huge cross reference data base also.

here is just one reference to that: http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=94771
That thread also shows how important it can be to choose a quality oil filter, but, essentially, if an oil filter causes an engine to fail, the manufacturer of said oil filter should take care of you. It may be hard to prove, but, if it is hard to prove, it may not be the case at all too.

OEM filters
I found a good price for OEM/Toyota filters for my IS 250 so I bought 6 of them. I have been using WIX all along (2008 IS) When I recently did an oil/filter change I visually compared the WIX I took out with the OEM filter. I know, I know..... But from a visual inspection, both filters look the same, same number of pleats, more or less the same construction, and so forth. ( I had one more new WIX so I matched it up too with the OEM)
I know I have seen other analyses where there were comments about less surface and so forth, but these sure looked the same.
But on the third hand, if you can get Toyota OEM for the same or better price, why not?
